Signing in with a passkey

Calemander has no passwords. The emailed sign-in link keeps working whether or not you add a passkey; a passkey is an optional, faster way in: your phone or computer signs you in with your fingerprint, face or device PIN, with no email to wait for. Nobody has to add one, and nothing is locked behind having one.

Add a passkey

  1. Sign in, open Profile in the dashboard and choose the Sign-in & security tab.
  2. Under Passkeys, type a name if you want one, such as Work laptop, and press Add a passkey.
  3. Your browser or device asks you to confirm it is you. When it has, the passkey appears in the list with the date it was added. A passkey that your password manager or platform account syncs across your devices is marked Synced.

Whenever a passkey is added to your account, we email the address you sign in with, naming the passkey and when it was added. If you did not add it, open Sign-in & security from that email, remove it, and use Sign out everywhere else (below).

For your security, a passkey can only be added within a day of signing in. If it has been longer, the card asks you to Confirm it's you first. Press Email me a link and we send a sign-in link to the address you are signed in with, or press Continue with Google if you have Google linked to your account. Either one brings you back to your profile to add the passkey.

Sign in with it

On the sign-in page, press Sign in with a passkey and pick yours. In browsers that support it, you can also click the email field and choose your passkey from the suggestions that appear there.

Calemander always asks your device to confirm it is you, and refuses a passkey sign-in where the device did not check your fingerprint, face or PIN.

One passkey works everywhere you sign in to Calemander: on calemander.com and on your workspace's own address, such as yourname.calemander.com. A custom booking domain is a place your clients book, not a place you sign in, so there is no passkey sign-in there: opening the sign-in page on it sends you to your workspace's calemander.com address.

Remove a passkey

In Profile → Sign-in & security, under Passkeys, press Remove next to it and confirm. It stops signing you in straight away. The passkey stays saved on your device or in your password manager until you delete it there too. Removing your last passkey does not lock you out: the emailed sign-in link still works. We email you when a passkey is removed, too.

Signed-in devices

Sign-in & security also lists every device signed in to your account, across all your workspaces, with a Revoke button for each and Sign out everywhere else. Seeing the list needs the same recent sign-in as adding a passkey: after a day, the card asks you to Confirm it's you first. Sign out everywhere else works either way.

Signing other devices out does not stop a passkey from signing in again. If you have passkeys, Sign out everywhere else asks whether to remove them as well; tick Also remove to do both at once. Nothing is removed unless you tick it.

What we store

A passkey's private key is never sent to us, and neither is your fingerprint or face: your device (or the password manager that syncs the passkey) keeps them. What we keep is its public key, which can check a sign-in but cannot perform one, plus the name you gave it, when it was added, whether it is synced, and, where your device reports it, which kind of authenticator made it.
